"How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.

Data for Diamond's sales charts — which includes the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from sales made to thousands of comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world.  Additional sales made to online merchants and other specialty retailers may be included as well.

Unit and dollar market shares are calculated based upon orders for comic books, graphic novels, and magazines invoiced and shipped to Diamond customers during any given month, which comprises pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable. Please note that comics marked with an asterisk (*) have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.

The New Titles Count Chart includes all titles that were invoiced by Diamond to retailers for the first time during the month and is not the official solicited title count for the month. Variant edition comic books and graphic novels at the same price point count as a single SKU. Variant edition comic books, lenticular covers, digital combo packs, and graphic novels at different price points count as separate SKUs for each edition."

How can an independent comic book creator distribute his/her comics through Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc.?

"While they monopolies in some ways, Dimonds model is eroding in terms of it's representation and control of market distribution.

A sustainable comic book from the big two is about 35,000 units. Though they have plenty of Comics they continue with around 10,000 units. There was a time where 100,000-1,000,000 units were the norm, but braking 100,000 is a big event these days. Most...and I do mean most...independent publishers and self-publishing Cartoonist today do not distribute through Dimond.

The brick and mortar shops have refined their approach, but the vast majority closed their doors in the '90's. Much like distribution through newspaper stands and spinner racks almost disappeared, LCS are not what they once were. The number of Comic Conventions has increased. Those along with increased acceptance into books stores and libraries, Cartoonist have alternative ways to build traffic into their online stores or Amazon (and other platforms) for print and digital sales. While on "tour" Cartoonist make their own connections with retailers and small distributors to get their comics on shelves, without the use of Dimond.

Selling 10 units or 10,000 is a wide range, but none of those numbers make a living. These small operations are not usually making a sustainable living just with Comics. However, they usually maintain control over the artistic process, production, original art and IP. One project can make a career. The less hands in the pocket of a single project, the more potential return on investment for the Cartoonist. Dimond is not a wise investment in most cases.

Independents can consider Dimond and should if they are at a point where they have an established audience. However, the question I would ask is, "what is the promotion and  distribution strategy that will help you build and sustain an audience, regardless of Dimond?"

uzun suredir bakmiyordum diamond verilerine;

benim icin en kotu haber Barbarella'nin dusuk satis rakami oldu. Cok basarili buldugum seri Dynamite 'in en cok satan 2.-3. serisi olarak basladigi siralamasindan son siralara dogru yol almis.
Umarim yersiz-zamansiz bir seri iptali gelmez.

Burada Kuzey Amerika çizgi roman pazarı hakkında güzel bir analiz mevcut. Yıllar itibariyle toplam hasılat, formata ve satış kanallarına göre detaylandırılmış. İngilizce bilmeyenler ve üşenenler için 2018 verilerini paylaşayım :

Toplam Hasılat : 1.095 milyar dolar. (Bir önceki seneye göre %7,8 artış)
Satış Kanalları  : Çizgi Roman Dükkanları - 510 milyon dolar, kitap satış kanalları - 465 milyon dolar, dijital indirme -100 milyon dolar, diğer - 20 milyon dolar.
Format : Grafik Roman ( ciltlenmiş comicsler buna dahil) - 635 milyon dolar, fasikül - 360 milyon dolar ve dijital - 100 milyon dolar.

Şu rakamlar ülkemizde ÇR ile ilgili yaşadığımız sorunların ve/veya memnuniyetsizliklerimizin cevaplarından biri bence. Yanlış anlaşılmasın kaliteyi her zaman arayalım, tüketici haklarından taviz vermeyelim ancak bazı sorunların ve eksikliklerin nedenlerini de doğru belirleyelim. Nedenleri doğru saptarsak beklentimizi de doğru yönlendirebiliriz.

Sevip sevmemek veya doğru bulmak ayrı bir mesele ama kapitalist bir toplum ve dünyada yaşıyoruz, gerçek bu. Tüm Türkiye ÇR pazarı muhtemelen ABD'deki orta çaplı bir şehrin ÇR pazar büyüklüğünde maalesef.

digitalin payinin bu kadar artmasi cok onemli, oyle kampanyalar yapiyoarlar ki eski sayilar vs icin pek sevmesem de arada aliyorum...

ote yandan CR sayilarinin artmamasina ragmen toplam hasilatin artmasi da ilginc. Birbirinden ilginc kapaklar, nadir varyantlarla tek bir fasikulu inanilmaz fiyatlara satabiliyorlar. Bu kapak varyanti olayinin b.ku cikmis durumda

Fasikülü ayakta tutan varyant kapaklar gibi zaten

Diamond'ın verilerinde TPB satışlarda en tepelerde Image serileri vardı. Yetişkin okuyucu iyice Image'a kaymış gibi anlıyorum ben.

Dijital çizgi romana ise mesafeliyim ben, e-book olayına sıcak bakıyorum, çünkü müthiş bir kolaylık ve gözü pek yormuyor. Ama ÇR'de böyle Kindle benzeri bir alet yok, tablet veya telefonla okumak çok yorucu. Yoksa ÇR'nin panel panel ilerleten dijital okuyucular hoşuma gitmişti.

gecen gun abartisiz 15 dk harcadim war of realms hangi kapagi alacagim diye ilk 2 sayi icin. O kadar varyant ve fiyat farki var ki. eskiden kolaydi isler bir seriyi istiyorsan aliyordun 

digital icin kindle - comixology kullaniyorum (nadiren ama, indirimli satislardan birsey almak istedigimde)
fena olmuyor bu ikili.
